Walpurgis era el título original de este tema pero a la discográfica le pareció demasiado satánico... Así que los integrantes de Black Sabbath lo cambiaron por War Pigs pero la letra la dejaron como estaba escrita originalmente. Geezer Buttler, el bajista y creador de la letra, comentó que este tema estaba en contra de la guerra de Vietnam, de como los políticos ricos y la gente rica comenzaban las guerras sólo en su propio beneficio llevando a la muerte y a la destrucción a los pobres.
Los lectores de la revista Guitar World le otorgaron el puesto 56 en el listado de los 100 Greatest Guitar Solos.
